About

Marshall James specialise very much in the domestic side of landscaping rather than the commercial market and although we have always carried out some regular maintenance, the  majority of work has been and continues to be the making or altering of gardens.

Our philosophy is that your garden is an extension to your property, another room just as important, using your garden for your children, home produce or just easier to maintain, you might be coming into retirement or just have a busy working lifestyle.

Our team has a combination of skills, specialties enabling us to take on more complicated schemes, but never will we make a distinction between whether your garden is large or small, it is your own individual space whatever the size.

We have worked along side many of the well known designers such as Dan Pearson, Penelope Hobhouse, Tom Stuart-Smith, Georgia Langton, Nick Williams-Ellis, and time and experience has enabled us to offer an ‘in house’ design service where we blend our own ideas and styles with a wide range of horticultural variables and individual aspirations of our customers.

The Company has competed twice at Chelsea, both times with Nick Williams-Ellis.  Our Jurassic Coastal Garden won a Silver medal and the Edible Playground Garden won a Gold Medal as well as the best Courtyard Garden in show.  It was a time of both inspiration and challenge to compete successfully against our peers at the very highest level, it was a massive achievement for the whole team.

The Companys’ red pick ups, with their distinctive logo have become a familiar sight on the local roads, but they regularly work further afield, with a work radius extending to the other side of Dorchester, just south of Bath, Bristol, Taunton and Exeter.

In 1995, we established a small horticultural outlet and yard in Beaminster and after 13 years decided to revert back to our main occupation.  We leased the nursery to Becky Stork of Little Groves Nursery who has taken it forward and improved it to many more levels.

Our enthusiasm and passion for what we do is unchanged.  Each new job has a fresh set of challenges and the gardening year is cyclical and season dependent, ensuring that no task is the same and that there is always a new problem to overcome.

Marshall James offers a full horticultural service, design, hard and soft landscaping and specialist maintenance.
